A 30-minute phone consultation is a good option for an urgent conversation when you need resources or advice, like a sudden change in your dog’s behavior, for example biting. A phone consult is also appropriate when you’d like to ask questions before an initial conversation to get a feel for how the dog training process works or to get assistance or resources prior to your training appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is your dog training philosophy? Positive reinforcement is a key part of our modern training approach, and it’s a highly effective way to teach dogs. Positive reinforcement means giving your dog something desirable immediately after they perform a requested behavior so they’ll happily agree to do what you’re asking. For example, you ask the dog to sit, the dog sits, and you give them a treat–or let them out in the backyard. You might also have heard the terms fear-free (or force-free) training and clicker training; owner/trainer Karen DiCostanzo is certified in these techniques.
What is your service area? Canine Consent is located in Johnson County, Kansas and provides dog training services throughout the area. In-home training makes it convenient for you, and we can even work with your pupper while you’re busy working, studying, running errands, or traveling.

“Karen is simply GREAT. She’s professional, extremely knowledgeable, and easy to work with. She is very passionate about creating strong human/canine connections. After using another trainer and not seeing progress, we were fortunate to find Karen. She has really helped my fearful, aggressive puppy. The most important quality about Karen is her hands on approach. She is always there for you. I strongly recommend her!”
“Our experience with Karen has been great! She is extremely knowledgeable and compassionate. I appreciate greatly her communication both in person and with follow up questions via text or email. Her training techniques are very different from what we have experienced with other trainers we have worked with, and our dogs are responding very well to everything she has recommended. I would highly recommend Karen!”
“Karen is an amazingly patient teacher who will help you understand and learn how to read your dog. I have a rescue pup who has extreme separation anxiety and a history of fear-biting/inappropriate herding. Karen came to my home for some intensive behavioral consultation and worked with both my dog and me. She gave me lots of great resources and checked in regularly to see how we were doing. I cannot recommend Karen highly enough–she is gentle, patient, and willing to work with you on your schedule. If you are looking for a positive, educated, and patient behavior consultant, Karen DiCostanzo is the one for you and your pup.”
